Tejas has been learning tabla from Pt. Samir Chatterjee for the past 6 years. At the age of 10, over a one year period beginning June 2008 - June 2009, Tejas documented his compositions in 6 taals and recorded his selected compositions in August 2009 in his first CD titled- Guru-Arpita (Dedication to Pt. Samir Chatterjee). At the age of 7, with the blessings of his Guru, he participated in two tabla ensembles at the 5th and 10th Annual All Night Concerts (May 2004, May 2009) held in NY City, organized by Chhandayan (www.tabla.org). Tejas received First prize in the instrumental category in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 at the annual Vedic Heritage’s Holi Youth Talent Competition in Hempstead, Long Island, NY. In the Summer of 2006, he played at the 6th Marathi European Sammelan in Almelo, Netherlands, as also at the 13th BMM Convention in Seattle (June 2007). In October 2007, Tejas had his Rangamanch Pravesh and presented Tabla Solo as a part of Chhandayan Concert Series. Tejas is now in 7th grade, loves math, and was in the Gifted and Talented (GATES) Program for 3 consecutive years at the Joseph A. Edgar Intermediate School and the Middle School, Rocky Point, New York. Tejas has been accompanying his sister, Priyanka Topé, over the past 4 years and also other local and visiting artists from India. Tejas loves playing tabla. He enjoys his musical time together with his family. He is aspiring to be the best tabla player he can be!
